Sports and Spinal Physio
Sports & Spinal Strathpine is located at Strathpine Square opposite the Coffee Club in Brisbaneโs northern suburbs. The clinic is conveniently located near Bald Hills, Warner, Bray Park, Lawnton, Bracken Ridge and Brendale.
With an emphasis on core conditioning, breathing and body awareness, our Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints.
Core, Strength & Mobility classes utilise various exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength and stability.ย ย
This can be done either using the Pilates equipment (reformer, trapeze table, exercise ball etc.) in a CSM Studio class or the form of a Mat Class, utilising bodyweight and minimal equipment. The perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, sport, rehab and life, these classes will leave you looking toned, feeling revitalised and moving with ease.
From here, we build and progress your program as appropriate with continued advice and education throughout, so you left feeling a better version of YOU.ย ย
Both Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists run our classes with Clinical Pilates Experience. Clinical Pilates refers to one-on-one Pilates that are often used for injury rehabilitation and used in conjunction with physiotherapy โ building controlled strength through the trunk, hips and shoulder girdle to support posture, spinal endurance and everyday movement efficiency.. Sports & Spinal offers both and can cater to your exact needs.
All patients are required to have an initial assessment with a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist before beginning any of our classes. This is to familiarise patients with any equipment, positions, exercises and identify any injuries/restrictions that we may need to be aware of prior to a patient attending a class.
Sessions are progressed using clear benchmarks (control, tolerance, range and load). This makes Pilates a practical option for those returning from injury, rebuilding capacity after long periods of inactivity, or aiming to train with better mechanics. Many patients use Pilates as the bridge between โtreatmentโ and โtrainingโ โ a structured way to maintain results and reduce recurrence.
Sports & Spinal Strathpine is NDISย registered and accepts Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment.ย
Core, Strength & Mobility classes are perfect for toning and reshaping the body. It works on creating long, lean muscles, toning all of those hard to target areas such as the abdominals, inner thighs, buttocks, back of thighs, sides and backs of the arms. For toning, these classes are best performed 3 to 5 times a week through a combination of studio sessions, mat classes and home exercises.
Pilates exercises are performed through a wide range of movements and work on lengthening the muscles at the same time as strengthening them. To increase flexibility, stretching exercises need to be performed daily.
The Clinical Pilates exercises used in our Core, Strength & Mobility classes focus on strengthening the weakened postural muscles and stretching the tight muscles that pull the body into these poor postures. Studio sessions are the best way to improve posture as our physiotherapists can develop a program to target your specific postural problems. Pilates can also be used for back pain as it relaxes and strengthens the muscles, easing the discomfort.
Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes use Clinical Pilates techniques which are fantastic for injury rehabilitation and prevention as it works on core stability, posture, flexibility, and correcting muscle imbalances and weaknesses via specific strengthening. It can be used for arthritis, neck pain, back pain and various injuries.
Pilates is the secret tool that many high level and recreational athletes use to enhance their performance, decrease the risk of injuries and provide much-needed cross-training. Each sport has specific strength and flexibility requirements. When you book in for an assessment, your physiotherapist will look at the things you need to work on to improve your performance and then proceed to design a Pilates program for you.

Jesse McKenzie
Exercise Physiologist
Jesse graduated with a Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology, alongside a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, and brings a strong evidence-based approach to his clinical practice. He has a special interest in musculoskeletal injury rehabilitation and injury prevention, while also enjoying the full scope of exercise physiology, including cardiometabolic, neurological, and chronic disease management.
Jesseโs passion for musculoskeletal rehabilitation stems from his own experience managing a severe lower back injury sustained through powerlifting. Through the rehabilitation process and returning to pain-free movement, Jesse saw first-hand how targeted, well-prescribed exercise can dramatically improve quality of life. This experience sparked his commitment to helping others overcome pain, rebuild confidence, and return to the activities that matter most to them.
Jesse is deeply motivated to achieve outcomes his clients may never have thought possible and strives to deliver the highest quality, person-centred care. He values working closely with clients to develop tailored, sustainable exercise programs that support long-term health, function, and independence.
Outside the clinic, Jesse enjoys staying active through all things sport and gym-related, watching every Brisbane Broncos game, and spending time at the beach. He also loves playing guitar and, most of all, quality time with family.
Jesse is available for Exercise Physiology appointments at our Chermside and Strathpine clinics.

What Strathpine Patients Say
My first experience with a physio who seemed to be listening deeply to my offered information and to my body through his skilled eyes and hands. I felt Sam’s intelligence through that contact, and I’m very confident that his guidance is safe and therapeutic to follow. Thank you!
I had an appointment with Sam today which was fantastic. I had fallen through some stairs approximately a month ago and I have been performing some exercises to try and fix my hips – as I have been struggling to walk. Sam recognized straight away that it was my pelvis that was the issue and not my hips – and then performed tests to confirm the diagnosis. He then provided me a program – and then altered it to suit my level of pain. Was a great experience.
I would highly recommend this place to others .
I had a spinal problem and was referred to this clinic by my GP.
I never ever thought that with only couple of visits I would go back to my normal baseline function.
Thanks to Simran for the wonderful job she has done for me .
Easy going, friendly staff – a smile greets you as you walk in. Pilates classes are focussed on you and what is best for you. Physios are great and really get you going again. A great place to visit for your health and wellbeing.
Brilliant service, fast and effective results, Sam has been nothing but accommodating and informative with my care needs and treatment. I couldn’t recommend them enough.
I have visited Sports and Spinal at Chermside over the past few years and have never hesitated to refer my personal training clients there as well. Through sports related injuries, Sam had provided me clarity and direction in the rehabilitation process. He is informative, thorough in his approach, and genuinely passionate about his work. You can trust that you will be well looked after by the team here!
I saw Sam today and it was a great experience! Heโs an excellent physioโknowledgeable, professional, and really takes the time to understand the issue. I walked out feeling much better and with a clear plan moving forward. Highly recommend Sam to anyone looking for a skilled and approachable physiotherapist!
Amazing !!
Talara (massag) has magic hands! Her knowledge of the body is incredible. Her empathy & care during my treatments were beyond my expectations.
Gemma (physio) is amazing. She introduced me to pilates *wow !
Very expert care all around.
I’m a huge fan!
Sam Moyle (Chermside Sports & Spinal – Senior Physio (Lower Back & Spinal) Rehab Physiotherapist)
Highly recommend Sam’s professional and personally adapted treatment plans. I’m could barely walk after a severe back injury at work (construction) and after a 12 week treatment plan with Sam I was running, stretching and lifting better than ever!
EXPECTAION:
I am naturally quite selective with quality health care for myself because I have two siblings who are doctors (GP & Anesthetist) and another sibling who is specifically a senior physio/team leader on the orthopedic ward at the RBH for the last 20yrs+. After playing a lot of semi-professional sport (rugby league & cricket) myself, I also expect a lot from my body and wanted to get back to performing at a high level, not just surviving through daily life.
RESULTS:
I didn’t require surgery luckily but Sam’s great knowledge and experience with Back Rehab saw him arrive at the same prognosis as the orthopedic surgeon I was referred to for a precautionary consult. Sam even took the time after hours to personally contact me and follow up with my progress after our treatment plan was completed. I wish I could afford to see Sam weekly still for ongoing relief of mild pain because all other treatments I’ve tried just don’t get me moving so freely like after a session with Sam.
I am middle aged (mid 30’s), fairly fit with kids under 5 and was devastated when I couldn’t even play with them after my injury – I’m so grateful that Sam fixed me and gave me back this simple joy of fatherhood of playing with my young ones.
CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH SAM, THANKS AGAIN!

To qualify, students across occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology and other allied health professions are required to complete hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of hours of mandatory unpaid clinical placement.
Many experience significant financial hardship during this time, often referred to as `placement poverty`, due to lost income and the added costs of travel, accommodation, food and other living expenses.
To help address this issue, Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) has launched a national petition calling for the Commonwealth Prac Payment to be expanded to all allied health students.
We encourage you to support the next generation of allied health professionals by signing the petition and helping end placement poverty.
