Orthotics

High Quality, Good Value, Custom Orthotics

BOOK NOW

Orthotics, more correctly termed here as Foot Orthoses, are shoe inserts that are placed into your footwear to assist rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries. These can be either non-custom or custom foot orthoses and both can play an important role in treatment depending on the condition, the amount of support that is required and the time frame you have been suffering from the condition.

Custom foot orthoses are prescribed from your specific biomechanical measurements and exact dimensions of your feet to assist in an overall treatment plan to alleviate long-standing foot, ankle, knee, and hip pain.

They are often best used alongside physical therapy to aid in deloading injured soft tissue structures so that they are better able to heal and recover. It is important to understand however they are not a magical cure, nor do they train your arches to set them higher despite some misleading information you may come across. Used as part of an overall treatment plan they can be a very valuable addition to getting you back to pain-free movement.

Custom foot orthoses may assist in helping treat the following conditions:

Plantar Fasciitis/Heel Spur Syndrome, Achilles Tendinopathy, Tibialis Posterior Dysfunction, Peroneal Muscle Tendinopathies, Midfoot Arthritis, Painful Bunions, Big Toe Joint Osteoarthritis, Osteopenia, Morton’s Neuroma, Intermetatarsal Bursitis, Metatarsalgia, Diabetic Ulcers, Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome/Shin Splints, Sever’s Disease, Persistent Calf Tears and Conditions of the Knee And Hip.

At Sports & Spinal Podiatry we have the latest & highest quality foot orthoses technology. We take pride in ensuring your customised foot orthoses are designed and made to the highest quality using the latest materials & most accurate methods; such as 3D laser scanning technology and computer-aided design and manufacturing.

Our team also understands that there is more than looking at just your feet and we consider all potential variables that could be affecting your condition. If there are variables we cannot address directly we know when and who to involve in your overall treatment plan. Working alongside similar minded allied health professionals allows us to streamline this referral process to make sure you are taken care of with the highest of patient care in mind.

Do you know what MS is? How does it affect the human body? Can it be treated? Let us explain 👇

🧠 Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Today, 2.8 million people around the world have MS.

🧠 MS is an inflammatory demyelinating condition. It is caused by damage to myelin – a fatty material that insulates nerves. In MS, the loss of myelin affects the way nerves conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain. Symptoms can include blurred vision, weak limbs, tingling sensations, unsteadiness, memory problems, and fatigue.

🧠 Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40. MS is two to three times more common in women than in men. There is no drug that can cure MS, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease.

The Sports & Spinal team can help those with MS. Get in touch with our team today to learn more

Exercise Right Week 🏃‍♂️

How does exercise help with mental health?

There is ample evidence that suggests exercise is an effective treatment method for people suffering from acute and chronic mental illness.

Exercise can make a big difference in mood and needs to be a fundamental part of mental health treatment. Even one workout a week is known to have great benefits.

Exercise can also counteract the side effects of some medications such as reducing the risk of falling by strengthening muscles and helping control body weight and blood pressure.

If you need help with getting more exercise into your life contact your nearest SSP exercise physiologist 💪
Exercise Right Week 🏃‍♂️

Exercise Right Week is aimed at encouraging all Australians to be more active and to know where to get the *right* advice when it comes to moving more.

This year’s theme is Exercise for the Right Reasons. Why?

Because a lot of the dialogue in the health and fitness industry turns exercise into a chore or punishment. It pushes exercise as merely a weight-loss tool or a way to create an “ideal” body. This can create a negative relationship between our minds and movement. We want to change that.

This Exercise Right Week, we want to highlight some of the incredible physical, mental, and social health benefits of exercise (that have NOTHING to do with the number on the scale!)

Saturday marked National Cheese Day! 🧀

We all love a little bit (or a lot!) of cheese in our diets but sometimes cheese can come with the stigma that it's not good for us. To help clear that myth up, Sports & Spinal Dietitian Caitlin has weighed in on what she thinks about cheese in our diets 👇

Cheese Pros:
🧀 Good source of protein and calcium
🧀 Lots of different types that can be used for different things
🧀 Hard cheeses are low in lactose so are still suitable for people with lactose intolerance

Things to be mindful of:
🧀 Can be more energy-dense, so you may like to choose lite options depending on your nutrition goals
🧀 Need to be mindful of food safety when including them in sandwiches/salads/other dishes
🧀 Need to keep cold with an ice brick in a cool bag when at school or work if you don't have access to a fridge

If you need help with their cheese intake or diet get in touch with your local Sports & Spinal team today!
World Hygiene Day 🤝

This year's theme for World Hand Hygiene Day is focused on recognizing that we can add to a facility's safety culture and quality through cleaning our hands but also that a strong quality and safety culture will encourage people to clean their hands at the right times and with the right products.

Sports & Spinal prides itself on instilling high hygiene standards across all our practices and services. We take hygiene seriously 🧼

Unite, talk and work together on hand hygiene for high quality safer care everywhere.
