Congratulations on your new orthotics! We just wanted to take a moment to summarize the orthotic wearing-in process again.
If you could please read this information carefully that would be greatly appreciated.
How to do it:
- Start by wearing them for 1 to 2 hours the first day.
- Increase your time in them by 1 to 2 hours each day thereafter until you can wear your orthotics comfortably all day. This can take 7 to 14 days, or potentially longer depending on your condition. Your Podiatrist can discuss this more with you upon your first review.
- If you start feeling discomfort anywhere in your feet, lower limbs or back, please take the orthotics out. Place them back into your shoes once the discomfort goes away and attempt to increase your time in them again.
- The general idea is to slowly increase your time in them and listen to your body. When in doubt, take them out.
- Please ideally leave 7 days before getting in contact with your Podiatrist if there are concerns about comfort. There is an element of patience with allowing time to pass for your body to adapt to them.
When can you exercise walk, run &/or play sports in your new orthotics (if applicable)?
Unless told otherwise by your Podiatrist, please do not exercise walk, run or play sports in your new orthotics until your first review in 2-3 weeks.
If you have already been given the all clear to exercise in them, please remember to:
- Ideally ease into them for running load. This may look like wearing them for warm-up only, doing a short interval running session in them and/or having a run around in the back yard or park.
- Take the original sockliners with you just in case there are any issues.
The work (or school) issue:
Unfortunately, most of us do not have the luxury of taking a week off to wear in our orthotics!
If your orthotics have been specifically designed to wear in these types of shoes, then please wear them for a couple of hours each day after work (or school) until the weekend comes. Once the weekend comes you will then be able to start wearing them for more significant periods without having to stress about taking them out. Once able to wear all weekend then you can start wearing them for work (or school) as intended.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Podiatrist via email. We are here to make sure the wearing in period goes as smoothly as possible.
All the best and see you in a couple of weeks for your first review.
Take care!

“November is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month! Men’s mental health in Australia presents some scary statistics, with 1 in 8 men experiencing depression and 7 men committing suicide a day.
Inactive men are 60% more likely to suffer from mental health issues than those who are active. Exercise can do incredible things for your mental health as it releases ‘feel-good’ chemicals in your brain that help improve your mood and mindset.
Exercise is one of the simplest and easiest ways to help improve your mental health, and it can have a long-lasting effect on your overall health too.
However, exercise and movement are only so powerful.
If you or someone you know is struggling, it’s best to talk to a mental health professional. There are many confidential helplines you can reach out to such as Lifeline and Beyond” (@exerciseright_aus).

At Sports and Spinal we offer Women’s Health classes which allows you to connect and relate with other mums and build a supportive community around you 💕
“Honest and compassionate conversations about perinatal mental health are life changing 💥 Whether you’re experiencing mental health challenges yourself, or if you’re concerned about a loved one we know that reaching out and talking about the way you’re feeling can be really hard ‼️It can feel tricky to find the right words. You might be worried about the way the person you’re talking to will react, and there’s a lot of fear around getting it wrong 🤦🏼♀️
That’s why this Perinatal Mental Health Week, we want you to know that everyone needs help at some point in their lives, and everyone deserves compassion and support 🙋🏾♀️
Reaching out, truly listening and making a connection is more important than getting the words completely perfect.
The PANDA Helpline provides counselling, referral and peer support from parents who have been through similar challenges. When someone calls, they will speak with a counsellor who understands the challenges of being a new or expecting parent.
