The Sports and Spinal Group ‘Fantastic Musculoskeletal Beasts and Where to Find them’ Annual Conference 2023 is bringing together industry leading experts in musculo-skeletal pain management for a day of education, hands on workshops and unique networking opportunities.
The Annual Conference will be held at Mooloolaba centerpiece Pier 33 on Saturday August 19 2023 from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
RACGP approved CPD Educational Activities: 10 hours
This is an RACGP CPD Activities event and will cover three key areas on the evolution of pain and pain management:
- Pain Storming part 1: Acute pain
- Pain Storming part 2: Subacute pain/surgical pain management
- Pain Storming part 3: Chronic pain

Dr Rob Park | Pain Specialist
Dr Rob Park is a pain specialist who values exploring complex pain conditions with a fresh perspective and explaining medical conditions in language that people can understand. Dr Park grew up in Cairns and studied at the University of Queensland before completing training at Nambour Hospital. Before becoming a pain specialist, Dr Park was a well-known local GP for almost ten years based in Buderim and was a national chief examiner for the Royal Australian College of GPs. He has presented at national GP conferences, wrote and convened the Sport and Spinal Sunshine Coast MSK and pain conference for the last three years, and is a freelance writer for Australian Doctor and a co-author of a medical textbook.

Dr Paul Frank | Pain Specialist
Dr Paul Frank is a pain specialist and anaesthetist with over 17 years experience in chronic pain medicine on the Sunshine Coast. Growing up in Cairns and trained in Brisbane, he has established himself as a well-regarded and valued pain specialist, helping many people reduce their pain and improve their quality of life over many years. Dr Frank is known nationally as a lead educator in pain procedures and is often asked to travel across Australia to teach other pain specialists and trainees these techniques and skills.

Dr Stephen Byrne | Neurosurgeon
Dr Stephen Byrne is a neurosurgeon and complex spine surgeon who commenced practice on the Sunshine Coast in 2017 and opened Sunshine Coast Neurosurgery in 2019. Dr Byrne underwent his neurosurgical training in Melbourne, Adelaide and New Zealand before gaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Byrne is originally from Scotland and completed medical school at the University of Aberdeen, the oldest English-speaking Medical School in the Western World.
