Accredited Exercise Physiologists are allied health professionals providing exercise and lifestyle therapies to prevent and manage chronic disease, injury, and disability.

An Exercise Physiologist (EP) is a 4 year, University-trained Allied Health professional who is an exercise prescription expert. They will work with you to design a specific exercise program tailored to your injuries, health status and goals.

Our Exercise Physiologists at Sports & Spinal can help your condition by working with you to formulate an appropriate treatment plan to assist in reaching your specific goals. Exercise Physiologist use movement and exercise in conjunction with specific education and motivational guidance to treat and manage your conditions.

Sports & Spinal’s accredited Exercise Physiologist can assist with Diabetes & Obesity, General Health & Wellbeing, Mental Health Issues, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Neurological Conditions, Strength & Conditioning, Women’s Health, Aging, Chronic Pain, Fatigue, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, Paediatrics and Cancer.

Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists design programs grounded in exercise science, chronic disease management research and functional strength development. Each program is tailored to improve health outcomes, mobility and activity tolerance.

Exercise facilitates changes within the body that increases its efficiency. This allows us to be able to manage conditions or diseases, that can cause our bodies to not function to the best ability.

You can expect our Exercise Physiologist to listen to your personal story and ask questions, so they can work with you to guide an appropriate treatment plan. Our Exercise Physiologist will complete a detailed, goal-focused, clinical, and functional assessment.

Treatment will vary and be specific to you but will likely involve modified movement and exercises to build your capacity and function through strength, fitness, balance, and more. Treatment will change and progress while working alongside your Exercise Physiologist. Our Exercise physiologists will provide education on health, conditions, injuries and what to do and what not to do may take place in different environments, including our onsite gym, your regular gym and pools, depending on your interests and goals. Our Exercise Physiologist believes in a multi-disciplinary approach and will work with other health professionals to help manage your condition.

We assist individuals managing cardiovascular conditions, metabolic health, musculoskeletal injuries, post-operative recovery and general strength deficits. Programs follow structured loading principles designed for safe progression.

Breanna Hume

Exercise Physiologist

Bree graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise majoring in Exercise Science and Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Bree loves that exercise can be a fun and social way to improve our health and well-being for the short and long term and enjoys watching her client’s confidence grow quickly over time. Exercise can also be something that we share with our friends and family and does not need to be hard or a chore to be rewarding.

Bree enjoys getting to know my clients, which helps her assist them as an individual and as a whole person to give them exercise plans that are best suited for their individual needs. Bree’s aim as an Exercise Physiologist is to help her clients reach their health and fitness goals and beyond so that they can live long happy, healthy, and active lives.

Bree has always lived a busy and active lifestyle, mainly through gymnastics, swimming, athletics, dancing, and cheerleading. Some of which she continues to enjoy to this day. She also enjoys a regular walk at the beach or in the bush and a good TV show or movie to watch.

Bree is available for Exercise Physiology appointments at Sports & Spinal Buderim.

Ruby Bergman

Exercise Physiologist

Ruby Joined the Sports & Spinal team after graduating from the University of the Sunshine Coast with a Bachelor’s degree in clinical Exercise Physiology. She has experience working in gym environments, including her role as an F45 trainer, as well as coaching high school sports. With a strong background in sport, Ruby understands the critical role that patient-centered care plays within the broader picture of rehabilitation and long-term health.

Ruby has a strong interest in the holistic approach and patient longevity, focusing on supporting individuals across a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, metabolic, and chronic conditions. She values using evidence-based exercise to promote long-term health, functional independence, and sustainable lifestyle change.

Outside of her professional practice, Ruby enjoys staying active and connected. On weekends, she can often be found walking along the beach with friends, exploring new coffee spots, attending hot Pilates classes, or training for HYROX with her sister.

Ruby is available for Exercise Physiology appointments at our Buderim and Sippy Downs clinics.

I highly recommend Leigh-Ann Bennett from Buderim Sports and Spinal. She actually listened to what i was saying re pain in my upper back and shoulder and instead of talking for my entire session as was my experience in past and over $3000 later … she prescribed hands on therapy and now i feel great! Thanks so much Leigh-Ann.

Cheese: friend or foe? 🧀

There’s a lot of debate about whether cheese is healthy, but our Accredited Practising Dietitian team has the facts!

Pros: Great source of protein and calcium, versatile in meals, and hard cheeses are low in lactose.

Be mindful: Can be energy dense, so choose lite options if needed, and keep cheese cold when on the go.

Ways to enjoy: Snack with veggies or fruit, top toast with cottage cheese or ricotta, or add to tray bakes, pasta, and other meals for extra protein and energy.

For personalised advice on including cheese or other foods in your diet, reach out to your local Sports & Spinal dietitian today!
