The team brings a range of exceptional allied health services to the Gympie community and surrounds including Physiotherapy, Remedial Massage Therapy and Exercise Physiology services.
Gympie Sports & Spinal uses the latest evidence-based treatments to treat various conditions, including shoulder, neck and back pain, sporting injuries, lower limb conditions, women’s health, headaches, work cover incidents, pre-and post-surgical, motor vehicle accidents and more. Services at Gympie are designed to work together as a progression pathway — from initial assessment and pain management through to structured rehabilitation, strength rebuilding and return-to-activity planning. Where appropriate, clinicians can align your plan across services so each stage supports the next.
Appointments focus on identifying contributing factors such as movement patterns, load tolerance, strength capacity and recovery demands. This helps target the ‘why’ behind symptoms and supports sustainable improvement rather than short-term relief alone.
Our team will provide you with a comprehensive assessment and treatment from start to finish. Our clinicians will work with YOU to facilitate your complete recovery. From the first appointment, care is guided by clear goal-setting and measurable milestones. Patients are supported with practical home strategies and progressions that make it easier to stay consistent between visits.
Sports & Spinal Gympie is NDIS registered and accepts Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment.
Whether you are looking to recover from an injury or recent surgery or are suffering from general aches and pains, our multi-disciplinary team will help you to get back to doing what you love most!

Benjamin Frank
Exercise Physiologist: Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation & Cardiometabolic Health
Ben is passionate about all things gym-related and has a background in personal training. He completed 2 bachelor degrees in Melbourne (Bachelor of Science: majoring in Human Physiology with a minor in Psychology; and a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science) as well as a master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology before moving to Gympie at the end of 2023. His areas of interest include:
- Musculoskeletal rehabilitation (with specialisation in the shoulder)
- Strength and conditioning
- Defence veteran rehabilitation

During his current role, he has refined his musculoskeletal knowledge and upskilled through completing shoulder rehabilitation courses.
His approach to rehabilitation and resilience has been shaped by his own journey. In 2022, he nearly lost his arm in a cycling accident, which combined with years of chronic low back pain, has taught him not only the importance of evidence-based rehabilitation on a personal level, but also empathy, patience, and the mental strength needed to overcome adversity.
He believes mindset is everything. His focus is on building genuine relationships with clients and empowering them to achieve sustainable, life-changing results—physically and mentally.
Ben is available for exercise physiology consults at our Gympie clinic.
What Gympie Patients Say
Can’t thank the team at Sports & Spinal Gympie enough for there support… from the ladys on the front desk who are always extremely bright and bubbly and help pass the waiting time happily having a yarn when time permits, to my physiotherapist who will remain nameless but you know who you are.. who I can talk to about anything in particular, all of you have gone above and beyond to help me, and continue to do so with my rehabilitation and my return to work.. without there support and guidance I think it would have been a much longer recovery time.. a massive THANK YOU TO YOU ALL🙏
Fabulous staff. Really good facilities, with gym. The rooms could be a bit more private, as could hear the patient in the next room, talking about their shoulder issue!
Noah & Ben have been great in assisting my recovery back to work, they are both very knowledgeable in the field and would highly recommend Gympie sports and spinal!
I’ve been working with Ben for a shoulder injury and all I can say is that he is amazing at what he does. Very knowledgeable, professional, always on time and nothing it’s too much trouble. Always happy to answer questions and go the extra mile if needed.
My shoulder is back feeling better than ever and I’m back in the gym lifting weights.
I can’t thank Ben enough, highly recommended.
Absolutely brilliant. My husband Allan has seen a number of physiotherapists over the years and we have to say that Michael Cahanding is by far the best. He is amazing! Allan has made fantastic progress.
Reception staff are all so lovely too.
Definitely highly recommend Sports and Spinal in Gympie!!
Michael is by far the best physio we have seen regarding my husband’s work injury. Michael is friendly, compassionate and goes above and beyond to help his patients. The staff are friendly and very accommodating, we couldn’t be more happy with their professionalism and highly recommend seeing them over anyone else in town.
I have been working on my recovery with Ben for over 12 months now. Lost around 20 kilos of post surgery weight and drastically improved my overall fitness under Ben’s supervision.
As an Ex Serviceman my health and fitness is extremey important to me.
I have found Ben to have a unique understanding of trauma and its ongoing effects both mentally and physically and as such his excerise classes for Veteran Health Care have been invaluable in my own recovery and those of my class mates.
Ben’s understanding of the complex nature of multiple injuries and their ongoing impact on lifestyle and functionality has been integral in my recovery. This has built a platform for me to regain fitness, and a more complex understanding of my physical limitations and how to work around them to achieve my health goals.

Strong grip strength is also a key indicator of overall health. Research shows people with stronger grips often experience better health outcomes, faster rehab, and even improved cognitive function as they age. It’s a simple way to track progress, guide strength training, and monitor rehabilitation.
Big thanks to the legends at @coolum_sportsandspinal for this clip, the team has some serious grip strength!
