Remedial massage focuses on identifying the underlying cause of musculoskeletal dysfunction. Remedial massage involves the use of a variety of therapeutic techniques designed to locate and repair damaged areas in your body, such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. Remedial massage can stimulate the blood supply and make joints more mobile. Regular remedial massage will assist in managing recurrent injury or prevention.

Benefits of remedial massage include:

  • Relieve muscle tension
  • Deep Relaxation
  • Increase the range of movement in joints
  • Recover from minor injuries
  • Reduce stress and headache
  • Improve the quality of sleep
  • Increase blood circulation
  • Promote tissue regeneration
  • Reduce scar tissue
  • Speed up the removal of toxins and metabolic waste

Sports massage is a type of massage focusing on loosening muscle fibres caused by sport-related tension and helps aid an athlete’s performance. A sports massage is ideal for people who have sport-related massages or want to improve their recovery post sporting events.
Through the use of hands-on techniques to your muscles, massage aims to increase flexibility and decrease pain. Sports massage will often utilise various modalities such as remedial massage, trigger point therapy, cross fibre techniques and deep tissue work.

Sports massages have a range of benefits such as reaching peak performance, helping the muscles to recover correctly and preparing the body for future exercise.

Massage also helps recovery from soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains. Everybody experiences some form of stress through work, family, the environment and society. Mental tensions, frustrations and insecurity cause the most damage. Hormones released by stress shrink the vessels, inhibiting circulation.

A stressed mind and body mean the heart works harder. Breathing becomes rapid and shallow, and digestion slows. Nearly every body process is degraded. Studies show that stress can cause migraines, hypertension (high blood pressure), depression, peptic ulcers, etc. In fact, researchers have estimated 80% of disease is stress-related. Soothing and relaxing massage therapy can counteract the effects of stress.

Injuries massage can treat:

  • Headaches & migraines
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sore shoulder and neck
  • Back pain & sciatica
  • Tennis and golfers elbow
  • Sprains, strains and tears
  • Over-use injuries
  • Shin splints

Lymphatic Massage is commonly referred to as Lymphatic Drainage. Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmical massage treatment performed by a specially trained lymphatic massage therapist to stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid around the body. This helps to rapidly speed up the removal of wastes and toxins from a sluggish lymphatic system. Lymphatic Massage can also aid in the prevention of swelling after injury or surgery. It is also thought to provide a major boost to your immune system.

If you have had a recent injury or surgery, suffer from poor circulation or are physically inactive, your limbs may be swollen up and your lymphatic system will need help to be effective again.

With manual Lymphatic Drainage, lymph vessels are stimulated to open up and collect the excess fluid, which is then directed to the lymph nodes where it is filtered and can re-enter the bloodstream.

In addition, lymph nodes filter waste from our body cells and assist the immune system in building an immune response; that is why manual Lymphatic Drainage is also recommended if you want to boost your immune defences and detox.

Some of the conditions that may benefit from lymphatic drainage massage include:

  • Swollen legs or arms due to fluid retention
  • Swelling of a limb: pre or post-surgery
  • Lymphoedema
  • Post-mastectomy or breast cancer treatment
  • Breast tenderness & congestion
  • Fibromyalgia & Lupus
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Depression & Anxiety
  • Hormonal & emotional imbalances
  • Cellulite fat accumulation
  • Recurrent infections such as colds, flu, tonsillitis, sinus & yeast infections

Pregnancy massage at Sports & Spinal combines relaxation massage and deep tissue. Our massage therapists adapt their techniques to address changes a woman goes through during pregnancy.

Pregnancy massage helps you by targeting specific areas of the body that needs to be relaxed or allow more movement. As your body changes during this time, it is important to prepare the body and aid the changes instead of trying to fight them. Pregnancy is a joyful time in everyone’s lives, but it is also the most taxing on the body, so it makes sense to keep your body moving and at optimal health during this time. Pregnancy or prenatal massage is a type of massage therapy designed to decrease stress/anxiety, reduce swelling in the legs and arms, improve circulation and reduce musculoskeletal aches and pains.

During pregnancy, many women experience low back, pelvic and buttock pain due to hormonal changes and the additional load placed on their body due to their growing baby.

Women who undergo massage therapy during pregnancy consistently report decreased anxiety, stress, leg pain, lower back pain and improved sleep. Pregnancy massage has even proved to be effective during labour in managing pain and improving the emotional experience that labour can bring on.

The benefits include:

  • Preparation of muscles required in childbirth.
  • Neck and back pain relief is caused by muscle imbalance and imperfect posture.
  • Assist in maintaining proper posture.
  • Emotional support through nurturing touch.
  • Relaxation and decreased insomnia.
  • Lower levels of cramping, particularly in the calf muscles.
  • Reduced sciatic pain.

WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF US

I have been so impressed by these guys that I thought I would write a detailed review re my experience with North LakeI damaged my back in a severe parachuting accident whilst serving in the Army, after 20 years of frustration, back pain and dealing with DVA and other health professionals I decided to seek the assistance of the staff at North lakes after being recommended to me by a friend.Due to injuries to my L2/3,3/4 and 4/5 vertebrae a program was developed, under the referral of my GP, to strengthen my core strength to support and mitigate the effects of my permanent disability.Over the last few months I have been regularly seeing Emily and Zac as my Exercise Physiologists, with focused on in improving my core strength, and Montana as my primary Physiotherapist who monitors my progress, overall plan and helps in recovery from my sessions with Emily and Zac. I am impressed on how all three communicate about my plan and goals and the feed back provided to me and my GP. I do love how they remember the personal things you discuss with them which provides a very personalised experience & service. Even admin support from Jess re appointments referrals is prompt, professional and friendly. As such I can not recommend these guys enough, having had multiple other service providers, I can categorically say that it has been 20 years since my lower back has felt so good.My most sincere thanks, it has been a game changer for me, which will allow me to start playing sport and live a more active lifestyle. In particular I would recommend to my fellow Vets on either white or gold cards.
I first attended Sports and Spinal North Lakes, late last year, for a Remedial Massage with Tim. I have been coming regularly since then. The staff are lovely and welcoming, and Tim is brilliant. Always caring, genuine and dedicated, and tailor's each massage to what is needed on the day. I would definitely recommend Tim to anyone looking for a Massage Therapist.
Sports & Spinal North Lakes comes highly recommended. I have attended this clinic 3 times a week for the past 5 months and everyday I’m greeted with a smile and great service. They have a great understanding of how to manage DVA clients which is fantastic and allows Vets to focus on their rehabilitation and reaching their goals. Thanks Sports & Spinal North Lakes for your continued support in my long recovery.🦉
I was recommended sports and spinal from a friend after I had suffered a dislocated shoulder outside of work and needed to get back to my job (carpentry) as soon as possible.I can't recommend these guys enough. With the treatment, exercises, mobile app and the extensive knowledge that the staff passed on I was able to get back to work and strengthen my shoulder more than I thought was possible post injury.100% will be going back if needed and will be telling everyone who needs to see a physio about them.
Fantastic post natal care from Montana and 10/10 remedial massage from Tim!! Beyond satisfied. Look no further :)
After an industrial accident I needed physio and after using this place a few years ago , which was satisfactory, i again went there .I got Kim as my physio and after her exercise regime for me and her magical hands I was able to obtain movement that allowed me to get going far sooner than I expected.I highly recommend Sports and Spinal for any treatment and through my experience they are the best .
Lovely people and very helpful
I had my first (of many) appointments here today, and instantly I was greeted by a very pleasant receptionist. My physio worked really well with me, and asked me lots of questions to effectively locate my pain and the ultimate diagnosis of my back injury. She was so pleasant, and listened to all my feedback. I definitely felt like my injury and my feelings surrounding it were highly valued!
