Clinical Pilates @ Broadbeach Sports & Spinal

Clinical Pilates is now referred to as Core, Strength and Mobility Classes Studio or Mat to keep in line with recent changes to Private Health Insurance.
Sports & Spinal’s Clinical Pilates classes are based on seven key principles: Breathing, Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Flow and Efficiency of Movement and Flexibility.

Benefits of our classes are Improved Core Strength & Posture, Increased Flexibility & Muscular Strength, Injury Prevention, Injury Rehabilitation, Restoring Regular Movement, Improved Breathing Control, Enhanced Muscular Control & Co-Ordination, Improved Fitness Levels & Balance, Pre & Post-Natal Exercises.

Safe, dynamic stability programs, with small group participants of 4 people in a session. The class runs for 60 minutes and is ran by University Qualified instructors (Either Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist). The intimate classes mean that you form a relationship with your Pilates Instructor who will know your body and what you need.

Our classes are ideal for injury rehabilitation and prevention, pre and postnatal recovery and are individually tailored rehab programs based on goals and initial assessment.

To begin our classes, you will need to have an initial assessment, with one of our Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist, the clinician will conduct an initial assessment and design a program specific to your needs. After the initial assessment, the first 2 weeks are FREE! (Unlimited classes). Once the 2-week trial ends, Sports & Spinal have the flexibility to book sessions individually, in a pack of 10 or within a membership (3, 6 or 12 months & direct debit options available, speak to reception to find out more)

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes sessions are claimable on Private Health Insurance.

Our Pilates classes are held within our Broadbeach Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy clinic which can be found at the Oasis Shopping Centre, shop 36. Bookings are essential for our classes.

Classes are available Monday to Saturday. Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims are available. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment. Nick Hurrell

Musculoskeletal Physio

Nick studied at Griffith University where he completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Master of Physiotherapy.

He has a keen interest in sporting injuries which came through his own experience as a semi-professional rugby player as well as working closely with elite athletes from a range of sports. Recently, Nick has worked with the Gold Coast SUNS AFL team for the past  4 years as well as contract work with the ACT Brumbies, Kangaroos NRL, Jillaroos NRL, Canberra Raiders, Sydney Roosters and the NSWIS Diving.

Nick takes a holistic approach to injury management and rehabilitation with a focus on exercise to helping clients achieve their goals and maximise their quality of life. He is always looking to further his knowledge through professional development to ensure he is providing the most relevant, up-to-date and evidence-based treatments to his clients. Outside of work, Nick enjoys traveling, running, swimming and cycling.

Kate Surman

Musculoskeletal Physio

Kate graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy Studies from the University of Queensland. Since then she has worked solely in private practice treating a range of musculoskeletal conditions. Kate has a special interest in the shoulder and knee and enjoys treating sport-related injuries of all levels. She also enjoys working with adolescents.

Kate plays AFL and is currently in the Gold Coast SUNS women’s AFL academy, Kate has made it into the 2020 AFLW squad.

If she is not working or playing footy you will find her doing any type of outdoor activity, in particular, surfing.

Kate is available for Physiotherapy appointments at our Broadbeach location.

Shannon Darlington

Exercise Physiologist

Shannon completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Graduate Diploma of Exercise Physiology at Griffith University, Gold Coast in 2015. Since graduating Shannon has worked in private practice and has experience working with chronic conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, occupational rehabilitation and injury prevention and management.

Shannon has developed a special interest in neuromuscular conditions, pre and post-operative rehabilitation, musculoskeletal injuries, chronic disease management and weight loss.

Shannon also provides Pilates-based rehabilitation for a wide array of chronic conditions and injury rehabilitation.

Shannon provides a tailored exercise program/class targeted to your individual level of strength, fitness, injuries and goals. Shannon loves helping patients achieve their goals, no matter how big or small they are.

Shannon is available for Exercise Physiology appointments at our Broadbeach, Robina & Springfield locations.

Marina Melnikoff

General Physiotherapy

Marina completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Australian Catholic University.

Marina has an extensive sporting background in gymnastics, powerlifting and athletics. She also holds a Bachelor of Exercise Science with Honours, which assisted in developing her passion in musculoskeletal injuries and rehabilitation. Marina believes in taking a holistic approach to patient care and utilising exercise therapy throughout treatment to optimise outcomes and achieve patient goals.

Outside of work she can often be found at the beach, surfing or diving. She enjoys an active lifestyle outdoors that provides new and exciting challenges.

Marina is available for Physiotherapy appointments at our Broadbeach clinic.
