Sports & Spinal’s clinical pilates-inspired classes are now named Core, Strength & Mobility Classes.

With an emphasis on core conditioning, breathing and body awareness, our Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints.

Core, Strength & Mobility classes utilise various exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength and stability. The classes are inspired by Clinical Pilates movements and equipment, using levers and resistance to promote correct muscular activation patterns, postural awareness and core strength.

Mat Pilates classes utilise a variety of exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength, and stability. All performed on a Mat with the added benefit of being able to perform the activities at home.

Studio Pilates utilises specialised equipment to optimise resistance and leavers to promote dynamic control throughout the entire muscular control system. Exercises can be graded for those with minimal control and coordination all the way up to elite level control programs.

Both Mat and Studio Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a fitness regime for life. The perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, sport, rehab and life, these classes will leave you looking toned, feeling revitalised and moving with ease.

Both Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists run our classes with Clinical Pilates Experience. Clinical Pilates refers to one-on-one Pilates that are often used for injury rehabilitation and used in conjunction with physiotherapy. Sports & Spinal offers both and can cater to your exact needs.

Our Core, Strength & Mobility Classes are beneficial for a wide range of problems, including back and neck pain, arthritis and injury rehabilitation, as well as easing the symptoms of several diseases and ailments. The best way to treat and rehabilitate pain and injuries is to book in for an assessment with one of our physiotherapists so they can develop a specific program for you to help your pain. All patients are required to have an initial assessment with a Physiotherapist before beginning any of our classes. This is to familiarise patients with any equipment, positions, exercises and identify any injuries/restrictions that we may need to be aware of before attending a class.

✓ Toning & Weight Loss
Core, Strength & Mobility classes are perfect for toning and reshaping the body. It works on creating long, lean muscles, toning all of those hard to target areas such as the abdominals, inner thighs, buttocks, back of thighs, sides and backs of the arms. For toning, these classes are best performed 3 to 5 times a week through a combination of studio sessions, mat classes and home exercises.

✓ Increased Flexibility
Pilates exercises are performed through a wide range of movements and work on lengthening the muscles at the same time as strengthening them. To increase flexibility, stretching exercises need to be performed daily.

The Clinical Pilates exercises used in our Core, Strength & Mobility classes focus on strengthening the weakened postural muscles and stretching the tight muscles that pull the body into these poor postures. Studio sessions are the best way to improve posture, as our physiotherapists can develop a program to target your specific postural problems. Pilates can also be used for back pain as it relaxes and strengthens the muscles, easing the discomfort.

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes use Clinical Pilates techniques which are fantastic for injury rehabilitation and prevention as it works on core stability, posture, flexibility, and correcting muscle imbalances and weaknesses via specific strengthening. It can be used for arthritis, neck pain, back pain and various injuries.

Pilates is the secret tool that many high level and recreational athletes use to enhance their performance, decrease the risk of injuries and provide much-needed cross-training. Each sport has specific strength and flexibility requirements. When you book in for an assessment, your physiotherapist will look at the things you need to work on to improve your performance and then proceed to design a Pilates program for you.

Our Pilates classes are held within our Robina Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy clinic which can be found within the HQ Building at 36/58 Riverwalk Avenue. Bookings are essential for our Core, Strength & Mobility classes.

Classes are available Monday to Friday. Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims are available. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment. Modern, clean and inviting, your local Robina practice is popular for Pilates as well as Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Remedial Massage, Podiatry and Dietetics.

Bruno Rebello

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

Bruno is a physiotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the private practice setting. He graduated with his Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2003. In 2006 he completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Bruno has also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy.

Some of the highlights of his career include:

– Physio part of the team caring for professional Brazilian Soccer player Ronaldo ‘Phenomenon’;
– Granted rights to practice Physiotherapy in Australia after completing the Australian Physiotherapy Council Exams, a well-known process in the industry due to its high standards;
– Physio for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games working with athletes from Weightlifting and at the Athlete’s Village Polyclinic;
– Physio for the Australian Judo Nationals and Queensland International Open of Judo since 2016;
– Physio for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 working with athletes from Weightlifting, Wrestling and Badminton

Bruno is passionate about movement analysis and pain science. He thoroughly enjoys working with clients from all backgrounds and has a passion for assisting CrossFit, Gymnasts and Combat Sports participants. Although gentle by nature, he is a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Bruno also enjoys surfing and weight training.

Robert Fischer

Physiotherapist

Robbie graduated from Griffith University with a Masters of Physiotherapy following a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science in 2018.

Robbie has a deep passion for musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy. In conjunction with Sports & Spinal, he is determined and excited to develop these passions further, allowing him to provide the best patient-centred care for all his clients. Through the combination of individualised exercise prescription, best evidence-based practice, and goal-oriented sessions, he intends to provide a quality service to his clients and significantly improve their quality of life.

Robbie has grown up on the Gold Coast and has been heavily involved in Surf Lifesaving which is where he developed his passion for community involvement and improvement.

Kamila Rebello

Remedial Massage Therapist

Kamila is Brazilian by birth and Australian by choice. She arrived in Australia in 2008 as an Overseas Qualified Physiotherapist and Remedial Massage Therapist. She has completed several Remedial Massage Therapy Courses in Brazil before completing her Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2006.

In Australia, Kamila has completed a Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy as well as a Pilates Certificate. Kamila’s training background gives her advanced expertise, which she puts at her clients’ disposal by helping them achieve their full potential.

In Kamila’s toolbox, you will find advanced manual therapy skills such as myofascial releases, trigger point therapy, PNF stretching, muscle energy technique, lymphatic drainage and more.

Kamila is really passionate about her work and having the opportunity to help others along the way.

During her free time, you will find Kamila outdoors with her dog Astro, riding her bike or having a coffee, one of her passions. She is also a beginner Brazilian jiu-jitsu player.

Mahalia Kinsela

Exercise Physiologist

Mahalia is a firm believer that movement is medicine. Having completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Master of Exercise Physiology at Southern Cross University, she is passionate about helping people to achieve a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Mahalia has a keen interest in musculoskeletal issues and assisting people in managing chronic pain. She has also worked with a wide range of conditions, including diabetes, pulmonary diseases, heart conditions and mental health.

Using evidence-based practice, Mahalia will work with you to create a tailor-made program to address your health concerns. Her top priority is to ensure you feel supported and empowered throughout your time together, as well as enabling you to take charge of your health and fitness in the future.

Mahalia is available for Exercise Physiology appointments at our Robina clinic.

Finding Robina Sports & Spinal and Parking Information:

Robina Sports and Spinal is situated in suite 36 at 58 Riverwalk Ave, on the 3rd floor of the HQ Building.

To find the HQ Building, from the Pacific Motorway M1, take exit 82. Turn onto Robina Parkway and continue towards Robina Shopping Centre. At the first roundabout turn left (onto Laver Drive) and you will see the HQ @ Robina building on your right.

To access the carpark, you will need to do a U-turn at the next roundabout driving back towards Robina Parkway and the entrance will be on your left.

Robina parking is available at the front of the building in the ‘visitor’ car parks if these are full, we have 2 spaces available on basement level 1 which are numbered 36.
