Sports & Spinal Chermside is located opposite the Westfield Shopping Centre. Just a short drive north of Brisbane’s central business district, conveniently located near AspleyCarseldineEverton ParkMitcheltonNundahStaffordBoondallBanyoTaigum, and Wavell Heights.

With an emphasis on core conditioning, breathing and body awareness, our Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints.

Core, Strength & Mobility classes utilise various exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength and stability.

This can be done either using the Pilates equipment (reformer, trapeze table, exercise ball etc.) in a CSM Studio class or the form of a Mat Class, utilising bodyweight and minimal equipment. The perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, sport, rehab and life, these classes will leave you looking toned, feeling revitalised and moving with ease.

From here, we build and progress your program as appropriate with continued advice and education throughout, so you left feeling a better version of YOU.

Both Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists run our classes with Clinical Pilates Experience. Clinical Pilates refers to one-on-one Pilates that are often used for injury rehabilitation and used in conjunction with physiotherapy — building controlled strength through the trunk, hips and shoulder girdle to support posture, spinal endurance and everyday movement efficiency.. Sports & Spinal offers both and can cater to your exact needs.

All patients are required to have an initial assessment with a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist before beginning any of our classes. This is to familiarise patients with any equipment, positions, exercises and identify any injuries/restrictions that we may need to be aware of prior to a patient attending a class.

Sessions are progressed using clear benchmarks (control, tolerance, range and load). This makes Pilates a practical option for those returning from injury, rebuilding capacity after long periods of inactivity, or aiming to train with better mechanics. Many patients use Pilates as the bridge between ‘treatment’ and ‘training’ — a structured way to maintain results and reduce recurrence.

Sports & Spinal Chermside is NDIS registered and accepts Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment.

Core, Strength & Mobility classes are perfect for toning and reshaping the body. It works on creating long, lean muscles, toning all of those hard to target areas such as the abdominals, inner thighs, buttocks, back of thighs, sides and backs of the arms. For toning, these classes are best performed 3 to 5 times a week through a combination of studio sessions, mat classes and home exercises.

Pilates exercises are performed through a wide range of movements and work on lengthening the muscles at the same time as strengthening them. To increase flexibility, stretching exercises need to be performed daily.

The Clinical Pilates exercises used in our Core, Strength & Mobility classes focus on strengthening the weakened postural muscles and stretching the tight muscles that pull the body into these poor postures. Studio sessions are the best way to improve posture as our physiotherapists can develop a program to target your specific postural problems. Pilates can also be used for back pain as it relaxes and strengthens the muscles, easing the discomfort.

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes use Clinical Pilates techniques which are fantastic for injury rehabilitation and prevention as it works on core stability, posture, flexibility, and correcting muscle imbalances and weaknesses via specific strengthening. It can be used for arthritis, neck pain, back pain and various injuries.

Pilates is the secret tool that many high level and recreational athletes use to enhance their performance, decrease the risk of injuries and provide much-needed cross-training. Each sport has specific strength and flexibility requirements. When you book in for an assessment, your physiotherapist will look at the things you need to work on to improve your performance and then proceed to design a Pilates program for you.

★★★★★

My first experience with a physio who seemed to be listening deeply to my offered information and to my body through his skilled eyes and hands. I felt Sam’s intelligence through that contact, and I’m very confident that his guidance is safe and therapeutic to follow. Thank you!

I had an appointment with Sam today which was fantastic. I had fallen through some stairs approximately a month ago and I have been performing some exercises to try and fix my hips – as I have been struggling to walk. Sam recognized straight away that it was my pelvis that was the issue and not my hips – and then performed tests to confirm the diagnosis. He then provided me a program – and then altered it to suit my level of pain. Was a great experience.

I had a spinal problem and was referred to this clinic by my GP.

Thanks to Simran for the wonderful job she has done for me .

Sam Moyle (Chermside Sports & Spinal – Senior Physio (Lower Back & Spinal) Rehab Physiotherapist)

Highly recommend Sam’s professional and personally adapted treatment plans. I’m could barely walk after a severe back injury at work (construction) and after a 12 week treatment plan with Sam I was running, stretching and lifting better than ever!

EXPECTAION:
I am naturally quite selective with quality health care for myself because I have two siblings who are doctors (GP & Anesthetist) and another sibling who is specifically a senior physio/team leader on the orthopedic ward at the RBH for the last 20yrs+. After playing a lot of semi-professional sport (rugby league & cricket) myself, I also expect a lot from my body and wanted to get back to performing at a high level, not just surviving through daily life.

RESULTS:
I didn’t require surgery luckily but Sam’s great knowledge and experience with Back Rehab saw him arrive at the same prognosis as the orthopedic surgeon I was referred to for a precautionary consult. Sam even took the time after hours to personally contact me and follow up with my progress after our treatment plan was completed. I wish I could afford to see Sam weekly still for ongoing relief of mild pain because all other treatments I’ve tried just don’t get me moving so freely like after a session with Sam.

I am middle aged (mid 30’s), fairly fit with kids under 5 and was devastated when I couldn’t even play with them after my injury – I’m so grateful that Sam fixed me and gave me back this simple joy of fatherhood of playing with my young ones.

CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH SAM, THANKS AGAIN!

Grip strength: it’s not just about winning bragging rights in the clinic (although, that’s definitely a bonus!) 💪

Strong grip strength is also a key indicator of overall health. Research shows people with stronger grips often experience better health outcomes, faster rehab, and even improved cognitive function as they age. It’s a simple way to track progress, guide strength training, and monitor rehabilitation.

Big thanks to the legends at @coolum_sportsandspinal for this clip, the team has some serious grip strength!
