Pilates @ Maroochydore Sports & Spinal

Clinical Pilates is now referred to as Core, Strength and Mobility Classes Studio or Mat to keep in line with recent changes to Private Health Insurance.
Sports & Spinal’s Clinical Pilates classes are based on seven key principles: Breathing, Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Flow and Efficiency of Movement and Flexibility.

Benefits of our classes are Improved Core Strength & Posture, Increased Flexibility & Muscular Strength, Injury Prevention, Injury Rehabilitation, Restoring Regular Movement, Improved Breathing Control, Enhanced Muscular Control & Co-Ordination, Improved Fitness Levels & Balance, Pre & Post-Natal Exercises.

Safe, dynamic stability programs, with small group participants of 4 people in a session. The class runs for 60 minutes and is ran by University Qualified instructors (Either Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist). The intimate classes mean that you form a relationship with your Pilates Instructor who will know your body and what you need.

Our classes are ideal for injury rehabilitation and prevention, pre and postnatal recovery and are individually tailored rehab programs based on goals and initial assessment.

To begin our classes, you will need to have an initial assessment, with one of our Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist, the clinician will conduct an initial assessment and design a program specific to your needs. After the initial assessment, the first 2 weeks are FREE! (Unlimited classes). Once the 2-week trial ends, Sports & Spinal have the flexibility to book sessions individually, in a pack of 10 or within a membership (3, 6 or 12 months & direct debit options available, speak to reception to find out more)

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes sessions are claimable on Private Health Insurance.

Our Pilates classes are held within our Maroochydore Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy clinic which can be found at Ground Floor, Chateau Royale, Cnr Sixth Avenue & Memorial Ave, Cotton Tree, Maroochydore QLD 4558. Bookings are essential for our Core, Strength & Mobility classes.

Classes are available Monday to Saturday. Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims are available. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment. Laura Perry

Low Back & Pelvic Pain

Laura graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia, and since then has been working in rehabilitation centres, as well as private practice. Laura has developed a passion for low back and spinal rehabilitation and working closely with GPs and specialists. Laura believes in a holistic approach to injury and management by addressing issues at a functional and impairment level to help her patients achieve their goals and to get them back to optimal functioning and performance.

Laura has postgraduate training in the lower back and pelvic injuries, as well as clinical Pilates and spinal rehabilitation, and regularly attends further training to ensure that her clinical skills and knowledge are kept up-to-date. Laura enjoys the outdoors, surfing and spending time with family and friends.

Candice Lamb

Women’s Health

Candice graduated from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and has been working with Sports and Spinal since 2014. Since graduation, Candice has undertaken further study in the field of Women’s Health and Continence and is this year beginning her Master’s Degree in this specialised area through Curtin University, WA. Candice enjoys treating women of all ages and is incredibly passionate about educating and empowering women to better understand and manage their conditions. She has experience treating a wide range of conditions including pelvic pain, prolapse, incontinence and constipation, as well as pre and postnatal conditions.

Candice also has a keen interest in strength and conditioning, functional movement and exercise based rehabilitation which stems from her background as a weightlifter and Crossfit coach.

Hayley Wilkinson

Lower Limb Injuries, Sporting Injuries & Concussion Management

Hayley graduated with a Master of Physiotherapy Studies from The University of Queensland and also holds a Bachelor Degree in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Ballarat. She is also currently studying her Masters of Sports Physiotherapy.

Since graduating Hayley has also completed further study in Concussion Management and is passionate about helping athletes return to their sport safely following a concussion particularly if they continue to experience persistent symptoms.

Hayley has been working for the Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club the past 4 years and has developed an interest in treating sporting and lower limb injuries.

Carly Burch

General Physiotherapy

Carly has lived an active lifestyle since a young age and has a strong drive to help others, both of which inspired her to become a physiotherapist. Carly graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane. She has gained a wealth of experience in the treatment of general musculoskeletal conditions, with a special interest in the management of neck, back and sporting-related injuries. In 2017, Carly volunteered as part of the medical team at the Pacific Mini Games in Port-Vila, Vanuatu and was involved in the acute management of sporting injuries for the participating athletes. She has also previously been associated with sporting teams including men’s and women’s AFL.
Carly has a passion for working with her patients to help them overcome injury and return to optimal function. She will work relentlessly to help you achieve your goals. When she’s not at the clinic, Carly is likely to be found out on a run, playing footy or out at brunch with friends.

Sophie Zykus

Womens Health & General Physiotherapy

Sophie graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Notre Dame in Western Australia. Sophie found her passion for helping women early in her career and since graduating, has completed further study in the field of Women’s health. Sophie is passionate about educating and empowering women at all stages of life so they can better manage their conditions and achieve their personal and physical goals. In conjunction with women’s health, Sophie also enjoys treating low back, hip and pelvic pain. She strives to provide her patients with the most recent evidence-based practice and give them the self-management tools they need to get on top of their pain and feel in control again.

Joe Upritchard

Exercise Physiologist

After graduating from school Joe began his studies in Occupational Therapy before moving to his degree Clinical Exercise Physiology .During this time he completed practical placements at local special schools and with a number of  disability support services. Joe has a passion for treating those with neurological and physical disabilities, culminating in  over 6 years experience in this  field. This has included work with various community support services and the Sporting Wheelies and disabled association.

Sophie Lewis

Exercise Physiologist

Sophie is passionate about all things Womens Health! This includes Pre- and Post-natal exercise, as well as specific exercise prescription for Osteoporosis, Menopause and Pelvic Health. Sophie strives to be a positive role model and believes that exercise has the potential to improve all aspects of health including physical, mental and social health. Sophie will help you achieve your goals with an individualised treatment plan and exercise prescription. She believes that exercise should be a fun and enjoyable part of everyday life so she will take time to educate you on the multiple benefits of a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

Kelly Kortick

Physiotherapist

Kelly completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) at the University of Newcastle and worked in private practice before moving to the Sunshine Coast. Kelly believes in a holistic approach to injury and disease management to help improve the overall health and well-being of patients. She is devoted to developing individualized treatment programs around patient-centred goals using the latest evidence. Kelly also has a background as a group fitness instructor and has played lots of different sports from a young age which established her passion for health and fitness. Outside of work you will find Kelly at the beach, hiking, running or at Crossfit.

Matthew Williams

General Physiotherapy

After sustaining a low back injury on the football field that left Matt unable to tie his shoes, Matt turned his attention from sport to studying Physiotherapy to give the others same experience that got him pain-free and back on the sporting field.

Matt completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Australian Catholic University in Brisbane with a special interest in sport and exercise. Matt is new to the Sunshine Coast having spent the past year working with a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions in Geelong.
