Sports & Spinal’s clinical pilates-inspired classes are now named Core, Strength & Mobility Classes.

With an emphasis on core conditioning, breathing and body awareness, our Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints.

Core, Strength & Mobility classes utilise various exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength and stability. The classes are inspired by Clinical Pilates movements and equipment, using levers and resistance to promote correct muscular activation patterns, postural awareness and core strength.

Mat Pilates classes utilise a variety of exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength, and stability. All performed on a Mat with the added benefit of being able to perform the activities at home.

Studio Pilates utilises specialised equipment to optimise resistance and leavers to promote dynamic control throughout the entire muscular control system. Exercises can be graded for those with minimal control and coordination all the way up to elite level control programs.

Both Mat and Studio Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a fitness regime for life. The perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, sport, rehab and life, these classes will leave you looking toned, feeling revitalised and moving with ease.

Both Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists run our classes with Clinical Pilates Experience. Clinical Pilates refers to one-on-one Pilates that are often used for injury rehabilitation and used in conjunction with physiotherapy. Sports & Spinal offers both and can cater to your exact needs.

Our Core, Strength & Mobility Classes are beneficial for a wide range of problems, including back and neck pain, arthritis and injury rehabilitation, as well as easing the symptoms of several diseases and ailments. The best way to treat and rehabilitate pain and injuries is to book in for an assessment with one of our physiotherapists so they can develop a specific program for you to help your pain. All patients are required to have an initial assessment with a Physiotherapist before beginning any of our classes. This is to familiarise patients with any equipment, positions, exercises and identify any injuries/restrictions that we may need to be aware of before attending a class.

✓ Toning & Weight Loss
Core, Strength & Mobility classes are perfect for toning and reshaping the body. It works on creating long, lean muscles, toning all of those hard to target areas such as the abdominals, inner thighs, buttocks, back of thighs, sides and backs of the arms. For toning, these classes are best performed 3 to 5 times a week through a combination of studio sessions, mat classes and home exercises.

✓ Increased Flexibility
Pilates exercises are performed through a wide range of movements and work on lengthening the muscles at the same time as strengthening them. To increase flexibility, stretching exercises need to be performed daily.

The Clinical Pilates exercises used in our Core, Strength & Mobility classes focus on strengthening the weakened postural muscles and stretching the tight muscles that pull the body into these poor postures. Studio sessions are the best way to improve posture, as our physiotherapists can develop a program to target your specific postural problems. Pilates can also be used for back pain as it relaxes and strengthens the muscles, easing the discomfort.

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes use Clinical Pilates techniques which are fantastic for injury rehabilitation and prevention as it works on core stability, posture, flexibility, and correcting muscle imbalances and weaknesses via specific strengthening. It can be used for arthritis, neck pain, back pain and various injuries.

Pilates is the secret tool that many high level and recreational athletes use to enhance their performance, decrease the risk of injuries and provide much-needed cross-training. Each sport has specific strength and flexibility requirements. When you book in for an assessment, your physiotherapist will look at the things you need to work on to improve your performance and then proceed to design a Pilates program for you.

Mark Cassidy

APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist

Mark is a Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist. He is a member of Sports Medicine Australia and a member of the Australian College of Physiotherapists. He has extensive experience working with athletes at an elite and everyday level. He has worked as a physiotherapist at the Sydney Olympic Games and Melbourne and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. He has a passion for rugby and, in the past, has been a physio for NSW Country, Queensland Country, Australian Women’s team and currently Australian Stockmen.

Mark has a passion for helping people with complex and difficult to diagnose conditions, particularly the shoulder and lower back. He gets to know his clients and works with them to get them back to having fun at the sports and activities they enjoy.

Mark is involved in the local Fraser Coast Community. He contributes to sports such as Surf Life Saving and Rugby as a volunteer. He is regularly involved with charities such as the Dunga Derby, Rally for a Cause and Fraser Coast Mates, helping make the Fraser Coast a great place to live.

Jacob Walmsley

General Physiotherapy

Jacob has degrees in both Exercise Science and Physiotherapy. Jacob, an avid learner and a people person, will leave no stone unturned in achieving the best results for his clients.
Jacob has an interest in pain management and vestibular rehabilitation. On top of his hands-on treatments, Jacob is excellent at designing rehab programs for clients to do at home, in the gym or in the pool to ensure a full recovery.

Jennifer Aviles

Physiotherapist

Jennifer graduated from the University of Manitoba in Canada with a Bachelor of Kinesiology. She migrated to Australia to complete her Masters of Physiotherapy Studies in 2017. Jenn is dedicated to optimising the quality of life in every patient and has a passion for neurological and pediatric patients.

During her time off, Jenn enjoys playing recreational AFL and netball, as well as going in being outdoors and travelling.

Lily Hayter

Women's Health/ General Physiotherapist

Lily grew up in Hervey Bay. After graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the Australian Catholic University, Lily couldn’t wait to start working in the community she grew up in. With a growing interest in Women’s Health, Lily plans to continue her postgraduate studies in antenatal and postnatal care.

Lily enjoys empowering others during treatment so that clients can reach their goals and return to their full potential. Exercise and post-operative care are also becoming of increasing interest. When Lily is not in the clinic, she can be found taking her dogs for a walk along the beach and sipping on a coffee.

Mandy Lung

Physiotherapist

After completing a degree in Exercise Physiology followed by Physiotherapy in Sydney, Mandy decided to explore more of Australia, particularly Queensland and its warmer waters.
Mandy’s experience in physiotherapy and exercise physiology has allowed her to see a wide range of conditions in both the public and private sectors. Mandy believes empowering clients through education and self-management strategies allows them to be in the driver seat of their own health so they can continue to do the things they love.

On days off, Mandy loves exploring the outdoors, hiking, heading to the beach and trying her hand in various sports.

Karis Moffatt

Physiotherapist

Karis completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at James Cook University. Karis grew up in Cairns before moving to Townsville to complete her university degree. Karis is very excited to start her next journey on the Fraser Coast.
Throughout Karis’s clinical placements, she gained experience in hospitals, private practices and schools with children.
Karis has developed a keen interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and orthopaedic rehabilitation as a sports trainer for AFL and netball teams. Karis also has a passion for sports as she grew up playing tennis, soccer and swimming.
In her spare time, Karis enjoys hanging out with friends, spending her days at the beach and finding new places to eat and drink.

Jamie Lineburg

Physiotherapist

After growing up in Hervey Bay, Jamie spent several years living on the Sunshine Coast before pursuing a career in Physiotherapy. Jamie graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) from the Central Queensland University and was excited to move back to his hometown to join the Sports and Spinal team. Jamie has an interest in Sports Physiotherapy and plans to complete postgraduate studies in this area.

Outside of work, Jamie enjoys heading out in his boat fishing, spending time with family and friends, and taking his golden retriever for walks on the beach.

Vidal Corte-Real

Physiotherapist

Vidal graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with First Class Honours from Griffith University in Brisbane. Raised in Brisbane, Vidal jumped at the opportunity for a change of scenery and moved to the Fraser Coast and to join the Sports and Spinal team in Hervey Bay. Vidal has a passion for tailoring exercise programs that allow his clients to achieve to their individual goals.

Vidal has a keen interest in sporting injuries and worked closely with many local sporting clubs alongside his studies. Vidal has also developed an interest in the field of major injury recovery. His paper exploring this topic is being published later this year, and he has been invited to present his work at the Australian Physiotherapy Conference.

In his spare time, Vidal enjoys exploring the great outdoors, visiting family and friends, and supporting the Denver Nuggets in the NBA.

Dylan Prescott

Exercise Physiologist

Dylan graduated with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of the Sunshine Coast and was excited to return to his hometown of the Fraser Coast to further his career. With experience working as an athletic development coach with a Level 1 ASCA Strength and Conditioning qualification, Dylan has a keen interest in sports rehabilitation and musculoskeletal injuries and is passionate about providing a high level of patient-centred care through using exercise as medicine.

On his days off, Dylan enjoys playing a wide variety of sports, as well as camping and four-wheel driving with his family and friends.

Coen Watts

General Physiotherapist

Coen completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at James Cook University. He has had clinical experience in both a hospital and community setting. Coen strives to use individualised exercise therapy and education to support others to reach their goals.

Coen has a particular interest in physiotherapy’s musculoskeletal and neurological fields, which he is eager to continue building to deliver the best care. This interest was developed through his work as a sports trainer for local sporting teams and his own sporting involvement.

Coen enjoys fishing, going to the beach, playing soccer, and spending time with friends and family outside of work.
