Your initial appointment will involve some form of assessment, but this will depend on the condition you are seeking treatment for. Where appropriate, this may consist of an internal vaginal or rectal exam upon consent, but this will be discussed in more detail at your appointment where you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the reasons behind the assessment. Other assessment methods may include real-time ultrasound, biofeedback and musculoskeletal screening.
After your assessment, your Physiotherapist will be able to discuss with you the diagnosis and the options for treatment. This may involve a variety of things including (but certainly not limited to): pelvic floor muscle re-training, bladder and bowel management strategies, and strength and exercise programs. You will always leave our rooms with a good understanding of your diagnosis and with a comprehensive plan in place to target an improvement in your symptoms.
What Do I Wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable in! However, if you’re attending for a pain related condition, leggings or loose comfortable pants are recommended.
Do I need to bring anything?
Any relevant scans, letters or reports, as well as current medication lists. Sometimes we will also require a full bladder if we are planning on using the ultrasound machine for assessment, but the reception staff will let you know prior to your appointment.
No other stage of life stresses the pelvic floor more than pregnancy and childbirth. Even caesarian births affect the pelvic floor as it still stretches and bears the weight of the pregnant uterus for nine months. Maintaining pelvic floor strength and function throughout your pregnancy and postnatally is essential.
Pelvic Girdle Pain
Pelvic Girdle Pain is very common during pregnancy due to the major changes that occur within your body both physically and hormonally. A combination of hands-on treatment, strength and conditioning and mobility work is used to treat these aches and pains throughout pregnancy.
Women’s Health Classes
Exercise in pregnancy has been shown to reduce complications such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia and is a great way to reduce and treat pelvic girdle pain. Our classes are specific to postnatal concerns and they achieve all of the above in a supportive class environment, where little ones are welcome! Our classes are run across several Sports & Spinal clinics.

Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy is a blessing and is a thrilling, special time in your life that should be cherished. However, it can also be a physical and emotional rollercoaster, which is why it is so important for mums-to-be to take some time out to relax, be pampered and ease the aches, pains, and tension that come with pregnancy.
At Sports & Spinal we have a special pregnancy massage cushion, enabling Mums-to-be to be massaged while laying on their stomach. Our massage therapists use a specific massage oil blend to massage your entire body focusing on the areas that most need work.
Postnatal Follow-Up
A pelvic floor check is an essential part of your postnatal recovery and is highly recommended prior to returning to exercise to prevent any long term complications. Our Physiotherapists work closely with our Exercise Physiologists to ensure new mums are building their pelvic floor strength as well as their general strength and fitness to support their lifestyles and health and fitness goals.
The term pelvic floor refers to the group of muscles that sit at the base of the pelvis. Their job is to provide support to the pelvic organs; bladder, vagina, uterus and rectum, as well as maintain continence.
The pelvic floor muscles can become weakened during pregnancy and childbirth, but they are can also be affected by constipation, a chronic cough and repetitive heavy lifting. Menopause can also influence how these muscles work.
Incontinence refers to the involuntary loss of urine. There are several different types of incontinence.
Stress Urinary Incontinence refers to the involuntary loss of urine with exercise, coughing, sneezing or movement such as rolling in bed or standing from a chair.
Urge Urinary Incontinence refers to the involuntary loss of urine with the urge to go to the toilet. People often describe this as ‘not quite making it in time!’
Fecal Incontinence refers to the involuntary loss of stool; liquid or formed.
The term prolapse refers to any movement of the pelvic organs from their original position. Prolapse is commonly seen in women following childbirth but can happen at any stage during a woman’s life. Common symptoms include feelings of bulging or heaviness in the vagina or anus, difficulty emptying the bladder and/or bowel and difficulty keeping a tampon in.

PLEASE NOTE: For appointments, please call the clinic directly to enquire about availability.
Born and raised in Australia, Montana graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland. After completing her physiotherapy degree, she began working in a private sports and musculoskeletal practice. She further honed her knowledge and skills in manual therapy and soft tissue release techniques there. Montana also pursued additional training in dry needling and Western Acupuncture and became proficient in conducting regular Mat Pilates sessions.
Montana was fortunate to spend a couple of years in the UK, gaining invaluable experience in a private hospital in Northern England and private practice in central London. While working in the orthopaedic ward, she deepened her understanding of surgical procedures and protocols, establishing crucial relationships with some of the world’s leading surgeons. In London, Montana worked in the boutique health and fitness space, combining hands-on treatment with Dynamic Reformer Pilates. Her exercise prescription skills are a testament to the high-quality training she received overseas.
Since joining the team at Sports & Spinal in 2020, Montana has furthered her training in the Women’s Health and Persistent Pain space, completing Level 1 and 2 APA Women’s Pelvic Health courses and NOI Group Explain Pain courses. This has equipped her to work with pelvic health conditions and complex persistent pain presentations. She is excited to continue to grow and develop in these fields.
When Montana is not in the clinic you will find her running after her toddler, walking her dog or sipping coffee at her local café. She is passionate about promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Montana enjoys working with patients from diverse backgrounds and collaborates with the talented team at Sports and Spinal to help her patients achieve their goals.
Montana is one of our Lead Physiotherapists and is an Associate Partner.
She is available for Physiotherapy and Women’s Health appointments at our North Lakes and Redcliffe clinics.
What North Lakes Patients Say
I honestly cannot speak highly enough of Sports and Spinal Northlakes. After my shoulder surgery, I was at a point where I was not progressing with the physio I was seeing, and I had started to lose hope that I would ever feel like myself again. I found Sports and Spinal and from the moment I changed over and began treatment, that changed.
I see Kelly Grant and Ryan Moore, and they are genuinely second to none. Their knowledge, professionalism and care are outstanding, but what really stands out is how much they actually listen. They take the time to understand not just my injury, but how it is affecting my confidence and day-to-day life.
They have got me moving again when I honestly thought I was stuck. Each session feels purposeful, encouraging and tailored exactly to where I am at. They collaborate to make sure I get the best outcome!
I always joke that I’ll have to leave a bad review because they’re too good at what they do and can be hard to get into at my preferred time, but that just says everything about how in demand they are. If you book with them, you’re in the best possible hands.
If you’re recovering from surgery, dealing with pain, or just need clinicians who truly care about your recovery, I cannot recommend Sports and Spinal Northlakes (particularly Kelly and Ryan) highly enough. They are giving me my movement back, and I’ll be forever grateful.
I first attended Sports and Spinal North Lakes, late last year, for a Remedial Massage with Tim. I have been coming regularly since then. The staff are lovely and welcoming, and Tim is brilliant. Always caring, genuine and dedicated, and tailor’s each massage to what is needed on the day. I would definitely recommend Tim to anyone looking for a Massage Therapist.
I have been working with Cat for almost five years. She is always professional and makes physio fun and competitive . I am a T12 complete paraplegic and have found that physio and Cat in particular have made amazing difference to my functionality . Always extremely punctual and always kind and curteous.
can’t recommend this physio highly enough. I went in with super tight pelvic muscles that were causing ongoing pain, and within just 5 visits my pelvis is now functioning completely healthy and normal. Montana was incredible — knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely caring. She made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the whole process. I’m so grateful for the results and the support I received.
Sports and spinal clinic was recommended to me by my gym coach after a sprained ankle netball injury. I had both Brandon and Lachlan work on me for a month, once a week, and the strength in my ankle has come good. They mixed manual manipulation of the muscles with physical movement and exercises that have meant I could return to the gym! I’m now strong enough to move laterally, hop and balance on that leg and am slowly returning to a full netball game. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Everyone on staff is friendly and chatty and make feel relaxed and valued.
Just finished up in North Lakes with Lana, I couldn’t praise her more on the session. Fantastic working and communication skills with my Down syndrome client, I could see he warmed up and felt comfortable almost immediately. Don’t hesitate to book this lovely young lady!
Brandon is the best physio ever ! Tim is exceptional at massage. Have enjoyed all the Pilates with other physios teaching! Very professional and cater to your needs.
Until I had seen Tom and Brendan at Sports and Spinal North Lakes I had little relief from pain to feet and hips/back. Highest recommendations for their professionalism, skills, friendliness and courteous attitudes and the ability to resolve my issues. The new site is amazing, offering modern up-to-date equipment and a wide range of treatments/rehab. Add outstanding value for money, lots of parking, fantastic Receptionist and other ancillary staff.

There’s a lot of debate about whether cheese is healthy, but our Accredited Practising Dietitian team has the facts!
Pros: Great source of protein and calcium, versatile in meals, and hard cheeses are low in lactose.
Be mindful: Can be energy dense, so choose lite options if needed, and keep cheese cold when on the go.
Ways to enjoy: Snack with veggies or fruit, top toast with cottage cheese or ricotta, or add to tray bakes, pasta, and other meals for extra protein and energy.
For personalised advice on including cheese or other foods in your diet, reach out to your local Sports & Spinal dietitian today!
